Yashica Tree

I’ve made it abundantly clear in the past how much I enjoy shooting medium format with my Yashica 635 TLR. I’ve started bringing it around with me on more adventures and I’ve found that hiking around in the out of doors with it isn’t as cumbersome as I originally anticipated, though loading film on the go is still challenging. I paired the Yashica up with my Voigtlander Vitomatic I on a trip through the desert to Joshua Tree National Park last month intending to get a little more use out of the latter on the chilly trails, but the Yashica became my main shooter when two rolls of film jammed and broke in that old German box. Not wanting to waste more film and time trying to fix the problem, poor Vito had to stay in the Jeep for the majority of the trip. Check out some snapshots of the scenery and the fam below. If you’ve never been to Joshua Tree, you need to remedy that immediately–the drive out there and the park itself are full of desert wonders, like the Amboy Crater, the Mojave National Preserve, mysterious Chinese Shi Shi dogs, and lots of ghost towns.
